REVIEW

MUSIC FOR PIANO & CELLO
"What an absolutely lovely way to spend an evening," said the person who was sitting behind me at last Sunday's evening recital, leaning forward as we applauded.
We had just been listening to two musicians, both priests, Father Neil Kelley, an accomplished pianist, and Father Gregor Cuff, a talented cellist, entertaining us for the best part of an hour.
Undaunted by the demands of the pieces they chose to play, the performers romped through Variations by Beethoven on a theme of Mozart and demonstrated the technical ability to evoke the most poignant of moments in the exquisite Brahms cello sonata no 2, where their combined depth of tone and dynamic variety gave the audience a real musical treat.
In addition Father Kelley treated us to a sparkling rendition of the well-known Clair de Lune by Debussy.
The performers communicated their obvious enthusiasm to a small but responsive audience and a glass of wine at the end of the recital rounded off a pleasant, relaxing evening which everyone enjoyed. An absolutely lovely way to spend an evening, indeed!
